Cartridge Music

Last weekend a sextet of British and Spanish musicians were brought together in Oxford by SARU to record a new realisation of John Cage’s seminal indeterminate score Cartridge Music.

Ferran Fages and Alfredo Costa Monteiro, who have worked together for many years as Cremaster, Lee Patterson, Patrick Farmer, Robert Curgenven and Stephen Cornford spent two days in the studios at Oxford Brookes discussing interpretations of Cage’s typically unclear instructions and performed the piece four times, with recordings made by Simon Reynell, who runs the another timbre label. In February 2012 the ensemble will meet again to perform the work live at the launch of the Audiograft Festival.
